Jones Fracture

by admin on March 28, 2012

A Jones fracture is a very specific fracture that occurs at the base of the fifth metatarsal. The Jones fracture is a common fracture in athlete. There are several different other fractures that can occur at the base of the fifth metatarsal, bit the Jones fracture is a specific fracture at the metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction. It was actually first written about in 1902 by a surgeon who had the fracture himself. Most of the Jones fractures are not displaced so are just treated with a weightbearing cast for 6-8 weeks. If the Jones fracture is displaced, then surgical fixing is necessary.
