The Foot Posture Index

Assessment of the alignment and structure of the foot is an important part of the assessment of an athlete, especially if they are prone to overuse injury as foot posture has been widely implicated as a factor. There is not necessarily a consensus as to what the best measurement of foot alignment should be used and many of them have been shown to lack validity and reliability. For that reason the Foot Posture Index was developed to measure the posture of the foot. The Foot Posture Index uses a combination of different observations rather than rely on one measurement of observation which does give it more validity. Several studies have shown the Foot Posture Index is reliable. The Foot Posture Index has now been used in a number of different studies.
